With the labor shortage and aging population in Canada, there is a red carpet pitched for the foreign nationals to immigrate. This was witnessed in the Comprehensive Rankings Score (CRS) of 737 points announced on 24th November, 2021, through the #210 Express Entry Draw for Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) Candidates Only. This means that all those candidates who secured 737 points or above in the Express Entry CRS point calculation total are eligible to apply for the PR status of Canada. Further, there were a total of 613 applications that were issued the ITAs.

The government of Canada has high plans for immigration as per the Canada Immigration Plan 2020 - 2022 as it expects that there will be more than one million new Permanent Residency (PR) status holders in the country. This plan was announced in Oct 2018, and since then the Express Entry Draws have witnessed a massive invitations splurge. There have been a series of Low Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score requirements to fill in the gap of skilled workers admitted through the Express Entry Program.

Despite the Coronavirus pandemic surge, the year 2020 has been a record-breaking year in an overview. It was the biggest year in the express entry system as the year ended with 107350 Invitations to apply being issued to Express Entry applicants. Towards the end of the year, there was a pattern of 5000 ITA issued with every draw in an effort to meet the immigration targets set for the year. Also, this year witnessed the smallest draw of the year on April 15 when just 118 ITAs were issued. Therefore, just like 2020, the year 2021 is also expected to be a record-breaking year with respect to immigration in the country. The month of January has already paved the way for a good immigration rate this year with 6,800 Invitation to Apply (ITA)s being sent in the first month itself with 5000 Invitations through the Express entry.

In the recent Canada Express Entry Draw #210, there were a total of 613 applications which were sent Invitation to Apply (ITA)s, the number of invites with this has gone up to 112,653 in 2021 so far.

For 2021, Nova Scotia Started with Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP) with its Nova Scotia Demand: Express Entry System. After this, on 5th January, Newfoundland and Labrador selected appellants in the priority skills stream, and British Columbia, on the same date, selected 158 appellants under different BC PNP streams. The Latest Draw of Saskatchewan was on 27th September in which 391 candidates got invited with the minimum CRS points score of 71.

To sum, there is not an iota of doubt that this is the year for immigration to Canada and the benefits of eased immigration process by the Canadian government should be properly utilized at this moment.

In the line of these plans, more invitations are expected to be issued over the coming months. This development shall prove a lot beneficial to individuals and families planning to get permanent residency in Australia.

Express Entry Requirements

The latest requirements for Express Entry 2021 that need to be fulfilled by applicants are as under:

  • Applicant's age must be over 18 years.
  • Educational qualifications should be such as to be fit to work in Canada.
  • Applicants must have the minimum score in tests of language ability such as IELTS.
  • The applicant must have at least 1 year of work experience in the last 10 years from the date of application.

Understanding the CRS Cut-off

Comprehensive Ranking System is the way one is given cut-offs while applying to Express Entry Draw. The candidate gets a score out of 1200 which is used to benchmark one applicant against the other. The CRS has been part of the Express Entry Draw since its inception in the year 2015.

The CRS is designed such as to calculate the candidate's chances of being economically successful during his or her stay in Canada. Thus getting a good CRS score becomes all the more essential in order to acquire your dreams to settle in Canada. To enter into the Express Entry Draw pool, the candidate must be eligible under one of the programs viz-a-viz Federal Skilled Worker Class or Canadian Experience Class or Federal Skilled Trades Class. A candidate must obtain at least the cut-off CRS to become eligible for PR.

If a candidate has provincial nomination obtained through on the Express Entry-aligned Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) streams, he or she receives an additional 600 CRS points along with an invitation to apply for the next draw from the pool.

If a candidate has a high proficiency in English or French, a single candidate can get up to 260 points while a couple can get 270 points. Since there are only a limited number of ITAs, hence it is always a good idea to increase your CRS score. If you are applying as a couple, check if your partner can get a higher score and if so then apply under their name. Increased work experience under NOC 0/A/B skill level can also increase your chances for PR.
